Commercial Renovation: The BAG
Commercial Renovation: The BAG

The Brackendale Art Gallery is as close to a heritage building in Squamish as we have. It’s an institution that has played a key role in the arts, music, and entertainment scene in Squamish since the 60s. We were very excited when our clients approached us to take on the extensive renovation of the BAG along with the team at STARK Architecture.
The new owners wanted to retain as much of the old charm and character as possible but needed to bring it up to today’s safety standards as well as change the layout to work for their business model. An entirely new commercial kitchen was needed for the restaurant, along with fire suppression and some serious seismic and structural upgrades. A new and arguably one of the best in Squamish, a rooftop patio was built to enjoy brunch while staring at the chief in the distance.
When you walk into the BAG now, you can barely tell what was done, but that was largely the point. We wanted to ensure that the space was brought up to standard but that it still looks and feels like the BAG did and was meant to. We feel super lucky to have been trusted with this project, and we recently enjoyed the space for our company’s Christmas party, which was the icing on top after an awesome and challenging commercial renovation.
