Commercial Construction: Squamish Search and Rescue (SSAR)

Date: 2026

Location: Squamish

Squamish Search and rescue was a milestone project for us at Blue Water Concepts. We have done large commercial builds before having worked on the Carbon Engineering building at the Ocean Front here in Squamish, but we weren’t the main GC on that project. This project started as a treed lot out by the Squamish airport with 0 infrastructure. We worked with the DOS and SSAR to do the full design of the new headquarters for SSAR. This included everything from overall layout, detailed design, ensuring it would be post disaster ready and that it could withstand the debris flow in the event that ever happened. We worked through septic system design and layout as well as a full independent well and water system. This was Phase 1 of 2 so we needed to ensure we were taking into account what will be built in the future as well.

The actual build and management of the project was driven by a very strict timeline as the SSAR were losing their old space and needed to be out by a certain date. Everything in the end came together great. There were so many amazing trade partners on this project that donated time, expertise and reduced rates to ensure this project could happen for such an important organization in our community. Jake was the PM and Dave was the site super on this project, but there were so many other sets of hands from both the Blue Water team and trade partners that made this project as efficient as it was.

Getting to be a part of the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony was something special. This is truly a project we won’t forget and we feel very privileged to be a part of it from the very start through to completion.
