Garibaldi Highlands Major Renovation
Garibaldi Highlands Major Renovation
Date: 2020
Location: Garibaldi Highlands
This project was as much a transformation as it was a renovation. When you look at before and after photos of this early 90’s home it’s hard to believe it is the same structure.
The scope of this project included bringing the existing home back to the studs both inside and out with a complete update of both. Our clients have some of the best views in all of Squamish which obviously needed to be taken full advantage of with the renovation design. The view looking straight out at Howe Sound and the Stawamus Chief is amazing and it was basically being ignored with the original design. It was obvious from the start that the kitchen would be the heart of this home and that more outdoor living space was desperately needed. Three large accordion-style patio doors opening up from the kitchen and TV room out onto the new rear deck completely changed how this area was used.
The kitchen is undoubtedly the heart of this home. It’s in the centre of the building, and the main stand-out aspect of the kitchen is the beautiful 18’ island. It features a good amount of storage, is the main cooking area of the kitchen and holds a large six-seat breakfast bar or homework space. ⠀
The island is a beautiful navy blue colour that contrasts to the floor and ceiling grain matched with the white-oak-cabinets on the opposite side. These hide the panel for the fridge and freezer. It also hides our favourite aspect of this kitchen – the hidden walk-in pantry. ⠀
The heated wide plank oak floors throughout the house and accordion-style doors out to the fantastic views and patio help make this kitchen even more inviting to spend loads of time in.⠀
Our clients wanted to incorporate the West Coast feel of wood elements into this renovation wherever possible. We used live edge Maple slabs in several areas of the home such as the main floor washroom as well as the floating live edge desks in the bedrooms upstairs. ⠀
This project was an excellent opportunity for our team to show off their many skill sets.
Our in-house team of skilled carpenters and carpenters apprentices did all of the framing, forming, finishing, the custom handrails, the staircase and several other details throughout the home.
Our Project Management team handled the hiring and coordination of all of the specialists and sub-trades that were needed. Of course, we kept it as local as possible too!
