Downtown Squamish Carriage House
Downtown Squamish Carriage House

The clients for this project came to us looking to build a carriage house on the back of their family’s existing property in downtown Squamish. There were a few site restraints to contend with, mainly the FCL (Flood Construction Level) and the fact it is a corner lot, which makes the setbacks a bit more challenging. We were able to navigate the existing conditions and develop a design that met their budget and their needs as a young, growing family.
The views from this project are stunning! You really couldn’t ask for a better view of the Stawamus Chief. The large deck overlooking the rear laneway and the oversized overhang protecting it are a couple of features that make this small space feel a bit larger than it is. We could still fit two bedrooms comfortably into the space, but that outdoor deck area maximizes the overall useable floor space.
If the family eventually grows out of the space and moves on, the next property owner has a very well designed income generator at the rear lot. We considered site lines and window locations to ensure that privacy for both residences was a priority.
