Custom Home: Gambier Island Net Zero Cabin

Date:

Location: Gambier Island

Our Net Zero build on Gambier started off with a client driving by a job site of ours and asking if we knew anything about Passive House. Well, we do! We know a lot about it! Throughout the design process, we determined that a Net Zero-certified cabin would tick all of the boxes for our client and that we could incorporate some pretty cool details into this build.

It’s on Gambier Island, which is a boat access-only island, which meant everything had to be barged to and from the island. We moved our crew to the island daily with our company crew boat along with many subtrades and materials as the project progressed.

Although this part of the island does have electricity, it was important to our clients that the building have as little impact on the environment as possible as well as have power during the many power outages the island experiences. With solar panels integrated in the roof system, they are barely noticeable but do produce more power than the house uses in a year.

Kayla, our lead designer on this project, had a lot of fun working with our clients on both the architectural design, but also the interior design details. We think it turned out incredible!
